What’s In My Fridge
My favorite part of Cribs was always the refrigerator tour. I don’t know why I was always so intrigued by what was in Ja Rule’s fridge. (Was he on Cribs? If he wasn’t, he should have been.) Well + Good always has refrigerator look books of like vegan endurance athletes and people who own soup delivery companies (because New York) and I was inspired to give you a tour of my refrigerator, because I know you’re all so worried about what’s in my fridge.
Thinking about this, I should have done this when I was home so it would have looked nicer in my dad’s Sub Zero rather than whatever it is I have. But you know what – I have a nice, new kitchen with granite counter-tops and I live in a building built in the 1920s so I really shouldn’t be complaining.
I shot this on Sunday morning, pre-food prepping for the week (which really just consisted of washing berries and making fancy beans from Rancho Gordo and mixing them with some quinoa, olives and goat cheese). Saturday morning I was feeling ambitious so I went to the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market and went a little HAM.
Before we go much further, I feel like I should explain why I live by myself and have four bottles of wine. All of these have been in here over a month – some closer to two months. The two dark bottles on top are a Chardonnay and Sancerre from my Scribe shipment last month. The rose (aka summer water) is left over from a trip to Scribe with my friend Chrissy in April.
Do you have a meat and cheese drawer? We’ve always had them in my family. I have some wild-caught salmon I am going to cook on Monday, cheddar cheese from Cabot in case I need quick snacks for guests and goat cheese that was made two days ago. I love California.
The green bags have veggies that wouldn’t fit in my over-flowing vegetable drawer. The bags in the back are figs, dates and bananas that I use for energy bites. In the left green bag is spinach, in the middle is kale and rhubarb and the middle is a clamshell of basil for tomato salads.
On the left I keep fruit (cut up lemons for hot lemon water in the container with the black lid, oranges, lemons, peaches, apples, kiwis and some ginger) and on the right are veggies. The paper bag has brussels and there is some sad looking mint, zucchinis and a couple lonely asparagus.
Here we have all my condiments (tamari, like 5 kinds of mustard, unsweetened ketchup and minced garlic, shallots and ginger), two things of unsweetened almond milk (they were out of Califia Farms at Whole Foods, wtf?!), chocolate cashew milk (to curb my late-night sweet tooth), San Pellegrini (my affectionate name for San Pellegrino), coconut water for smoothies/protein shakes (I buy Harmless Harvest for drinking) and Naked Juice (I’m excited to share their newest juice with you next week!). Also some hemp seeds, flax meal, unsweetened coconut and um… another half-drank bottle of wine that was probably purchased in March/April.
Also not shown are like 5 containers of Fage because it’s basically more impossible to find in this city than the Fountain of Youth so I stock-up whenever I see it.
