Now Trending – Best Links Week of 9.1

I’m running a half-marathon tomorrow. And Almost Getting it Together turns 1 on Sunday. And I turn 25 1/2 on Sunday. So it’s an eventful weekend as far as events go. The first half of 25 has been a bit of a  whirlwind. I feel like the second half will pick the momentum back up. Okay, talking about my age makes me feel existential and weird. I’m done. Go read the best links of the week.

Travel
I’ve never really had Jamaica that high on my travel bucket list, but Neon Blush has the most beautiful photo diary of her trip there. Can I surf there? If so, I’m sold.

Thought Catalogue is 95% junk but I still follow them on Twitter for hopes that some good article will pop up. 15 Signs You’re an Explorer definitely hit home.

The idea of beignets and shopping my way through New Orleans in 48 hours has me thinking about tagging along on Emily’s marathon trip to the city in January.

Style
Obsessed with this floral sweatshirt + leather skirt combo from Gal Meets Glam.

Is it too late in the season for a flamingo backpack?

I need this coat from Free People so I can recreate this look.

free people south coast plaza swing coat | almost getting it together

Love this.

Lifestyle
Being uncomfortable is hard. That’s why it is the opposite of comfortable. But growth and change can only occur when you’re uncomfortable. Sarah from Picky Runner had an amazing post about Being Uncomfortable this week.

Running
If you need a feel good story today, this boy with autism is one of the best high school runners in the country.

Meb Keflizighi aka the winner of this year’s Boston Marathon wrote a beautiful post on taking a chance by running the marathon at the Athens Olympics ten years ago when he knew he would most likely medal in the 10K.

Food
It’s no secret I’m obsessed with mustard. I need to make this grilled honey mustard chicken from Angela’s blog, Nutty for Life.

I gave up baking (for myself) with real sugar and butter and flour and fun things a long time ago. (That isn’t to say I won’t bake things for other people with those delicious items!) I’m about to make an exception for this pistachio cream cake with chocolate ganache from My Name is Yeh.

Food dyes are really scary which is really sad because sprinkles are delicious and beautiful. Kylie from Imma Eat That is genius and made sprinkles with all natural coloring!

Hey, remember Hatch Chile Mania? Luckily I have about four pounds of roast hatch chiles in the fridge so these hatch chile and white cheddar corn muffins might have to happen.

Chat with me:
Do you celebrate half-birthdays? What fall things are you excited about? What amazing things did I miss out on reading this week?

Send me some hatch chiles, yo. I lived in Jamaica for a month, and while it’s cool and all that, it really depends on where you are. I would not recommend surfing, but I’m sure you could manage.

HAPPY HALF BIRTHDAY (almost). Also I had no idea you were running a HM tomorrow! Then again that’s like an easy run for you. Pre-game tonight in prep? We both know hangovers are the trick to PRs…

I’m not even 100% sure when my half birthday is. Let me see… HA! July 4th. Can we pretend that all of America celebrates my half-birthday? I really should start, though… It’d be way easier to celebrate when it’s warm than when it’s freezing and everyone is just coming down from the Christmas high.

Good luck on your half tomorrow!

You can totally just celebrate your half-birthday… I was told half-birthdays “aren’t a thing” by pretty much everyone, but we can start it!

Also, just had to say….I’m obsessed with mustard too. This girl right here LOVES mustard. I use it as a salad dressing and have for years. Just plain yellow mustard. I get the greatest looks at restaurants by servers when they ask for my dressing order!

Happy half-birthday! I don’t tend to celebrate mine, but if I happen to realize that it is my half-birthday, I’ll usually find something extra-awesome to make and eat. :P

I’m super excited for all the pumpkin/holiday recipes that are gonna start popping up all over the place soon! :D
