Dungeness Crab Season

IT’S DUNGENESS CRAB SEASON!!! (Insert nonexistent crab emoji.)

Okay, peak dungeness crab season was last month, but I guess it’s dungeness crab season until June? Apparently you can’t catch them though, you have to throw them back. This state. If you don’t know what a dungeness crab is, it’s like a normal crab #basicbitch crab but special and trendy and only found on the West Coast. (Can you tell when I have way too much coffee then sit down to write a post?)

If you haven’t figured it out yet, my life is just convincing people to eat and do things with me. That’s what happens when you’re single. Luckily Kay is my number one gal and agreed to go eat dungeness crab with me before she left for Thanksgiving. I partly want to stay in SF next year for Thanksgiving again and have a crab bake but like… I live in a 600 square foot studio apartment, not a house soooo there’s that. I guess I’ll have to ship crabs home to Pittsburgh and do it there?

You can live vicariously through me by looking at photos of my meal. That’s all that blogging is about, right? And I’m linking up with Jenn for What I Ate Wednesday because it’s Wednesday and I ate this on a Wednesday and after writing the first two paragraphs three days ago I’m just phoning this in.

Crabs on the grill.

Taking a photo of menus is a jerk-ish way to remember what you ate while being a slave to your phone.

Bread neither of us touched. I may have glutened myself if it were warm. Reminder: Pick up Tartine loaf to bring home.

Salad, duh.

What I like most about having friends with blogs is there is no shame in the photo taking.

Crab up close and personal.

Roasted brussels and squash!

Dessert! Pomegranates, fresh cream and gingersnaps.

Should I ship dungeness crabs home to have a party with them? Did you catch the slight bombshell I dropped in this post? What food is your area known for?

I’ve never eaten crab from a crab leg…. is that even the right terminology? I’ve eaten crab cakes and I’ve eaten it in salad, but I’ve never actually ordered crab legs. I should really get with it.

You should! Maybe I’ll have to bring some home :)

I would gladly eat crab legs with you. I love sea food. I think I’ve only had snow crab legs though. You don’t get too much of a variety here in Missouri.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some crab but…….. I HATE getting it out of the shell, so I typically bypass it, and I totally shouldn’t!!

So, damn you. I eat real, fresh crab (read not a crab cake) one time a year when I hit up Hilton Head Island SC and get a big ass pot of Alaskan Snow Crabs Legs and just go to town on them. And then I waddle out of the restaurant but at least I’m fat and happy! Not really sure what a Dungeness crab is… I guess I’ll ask google.

Every Christmas has Dungeness Crab at our table. That with the Prime Rib and lots of great wine. I am not a red meat eater, so the Prime Rib is for everyone else. I am very happy with just the crab and a great salad. :)
