These Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Energy Bites lasted less than a week. Honestly, I’m surprised they made it from the food processor to bowl form because I was “taste testing” with a heavy hand.

I’m having trouble finding words for this post. I’m not really emotionally connect to these energy bites, they stemmed from me needing to have something to eat pre-run in the morning or pre-yoga after work but just turned out deliciously. Sometimes I feel like I create recipes out of need – need for vegetables, need to detox, need for a Cinco de Mayo recipe to use for the AEO blog.

Typically I have so many words. I spend my long runs composing blog posts in my head and thinking about my book outline. I think of really funny tweets and things I want to tell my friends. I’m constantly making notes in my phone, sending e-mails to myself and jotting down ideas on whatever paper is around. It feels strange to have writer’s block.

I’m not in the mood to create recipes, I don’t want to think about what to eat – and it’s not like I’m depressed. Quite the opposite: I’m happy, everything in life is going well, so maybe I’m mentally checking out and enjoying the feeling? Not so sure.

Anyway, there’s the standard super foods in these guys (chia seeds and hemp seeds) and you can easily make them vegan by subbing agave for the honey.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Energy Bites

Recipe type: Snack
Cuisine: Gluten Free
Serves: 12
  • ½ cup dried figs
  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp carob chips
  • 1 tbsp chocolate protein powder
  • ½ tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  1. Put all ingredients except for carob chips in food processor and process until a ball begins to form.
  2. Put ball in fridge and chill for at least 30 minutes up to overnight.
  3. Roll mixture into 1" balls.
  4. Store in fridge for up to a week.

LOVE. I taste test with a heavy hand too so no worries. And if I get writer’s block then I usually just have to step away for like a day and come back to it…which seriously isn’t helpful when I want to post the post the next day! Luckily I usually don’t get writer’s block.

You would think that we (of so many words) wouldn’t get writers block, but I find that you get stuck not when there is nothing floating around in there, but rather there is just too much. Sometimes it helps to just clear your mind, close your eyes, and then open them, and write on the first thing that you see. Then one thing will move to another and another. Or close your eyes and then write on your first thought–it might be what is weighing most heavily on your mind, and by clearing it, you’ll find the room to organize your thoughts.

You always know I have writer’s block when my writing has nothing to do with the recipe! It’s like an identity criss, do I want to just write or do I want to post a recipe?! Meh I just do both cause it’s my blog so my rules ;)

:lol: Omg — great minds! I’ve got an energy ball recipe up today too, and I ran into the same problem of almost polishing off the batch before I had a chance to actually shape and photograph them. So good. Balls for life :mrgreen:

I get writers block often. Especially when I am trying to think of ideas for my fictional novel. I’ve attempted to write pages of like three different ideas and it never seems right… I like that you used figs and not dates. #breakingoutofthebox Oh and I get chia seeds stuck in my teeth all the time, it’s so embarrassing. I look like a toothless pirate when that happens.

Writers block ALWAYS happens and at the times when I want to sit down and just write away…..ironically, my best posts are at the drop of a hat where time is limited. Drainer. It seems like many of us were on the no bake train today- and heavy handedness and me = bff.

I absolutely love the way the seeds give these guys texture. I’m a big fan of texture in my food so I bet these energy bites would keep me full and my mouth entertained :)
